ITINERARY OVERVIEW:

Destinations:     Uluru/Ayers Rock

No. of days:      4 Days

You get to explore the unique rock formation of Uluru (Ayers Rock) and surrounding areas during this stay.  Begin your visit with an evening exploring the renowned Field of Light art installation. 50000 glass spheres glow as the sun goes down.  Early next morning catch the sunrise as it comes up over the Kata Tjuta, learn about the geological development of the area and enjoy a walk through the Valley of the Winds.  Try your hand at traditional dot painting in the afternoon before enjoying another stunning sunset at the renowned Sounds of Silence dinner where you watch the sun set in a blaze of reds and oranges, then dine under the stars on Australian delicacies and fine wines. Finish your Red Center adventure by exploring Kings Canyon and enjoying views of Watarrka National Park from the canyon edge.

DAY BY DAY:

Day 1:  Arrive and transfer to your accommodation.  This evening enjoy a Fields of Light Tour.  You will be picked up from your accommodation and transfer to the remote desert location with majestic views of Uluru. You're welcomed at an exclusive dune top just after the sun has set on the horizon. Savor a selection of outback canapes with sparkling wine or beer as your host provides insight into the light installation that awaits you. As darkness falls, 50,000 glass spheres gently come to life. Covered under a sky brilliant with stars, Field of Light beckons you to explore and lose yourself momentarily in the rhythms of colored light.

Day 2:  You get to view the sunrise from a different location this morning.  You will be picked up from your hotel to commence a morning Kata Tjuta Sunrise and Valley of the Winds tour. Travel to Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) and learn about the geological development of the area. Watch the spectacular sunrise over Kata Tjuta with Uluru in the distance from the western dune viewing area and enjoy a light breakfast. You will then be escorted on a 2 to 3 hour walk to the Valley of the Winds lookout. Marvel at the unique flora and admire the view of the central valley of the domes of Kata Tjuta. Tour concludes at approximately 11.30am (October to March) or 12.00pm (April to September), at which time hotel drop offs will commence.

Try your hand at traditional dot painting this afternoon with a 1.5 hour workshop.  Join the fun art experience in a unique workshop provided by local Anangu (Aboriginal people from the southeast and west of central Australia) artists and hosts. Learn about traditional Aboriginal dot painting through the ancient symbols of the desert and create your own work of art to take home as a memento.

Tonight you experience the famous Sounds of Silence Dinner.  This is an unforgettable evening eating beautifully prepared food under the sparkling outback sky. The journey begins on a lone sand dune. A meandering path takes participants to an uninterrupted, 360 degree view of this vast landscape. In front is the fabled Uluru; behind are the domes of Kata Tjuta and possibly the most spectacular sunset you have ever seen. Here enjoy sparkling wine and a selection of delectable canapés. As the sun sets in a blaze of reds and oranges and into the starlit night, feast on a gourmet barbecue buffet of authentic Australian delicacies including barramundi, kangaroo, crocodile, bush salads and classic desserts, complemented by some of Australia's finest wines. Attention then turns to some of the world's best stargazing as the resident astronomer takes diners on an unforgettable tour of the spectacular southern night sky. As dinner winds down, select from a choice of tea, coffee or port. In winter, guests gather around a campfire to savor a special treat of hot mulled wine.

Day 3:  You’re off exploring today on a full day trip to Kings Canyon with the Outback Panorama tour. Travel from Ayers Rock Resort to Kings Canyon, stopping for breakfast at Kings Creek Station along the way. Make the rocky climb to the rim of the canyon for marvelous views of Watarrka National Park. Follow the rim of the canyon stopping to look down into the canyon gorge at lookout points. Time permitting, stop at the green oasis of the 'Garden of Eden'. The circuit walk takes approximately 3 hours to complete and is rocky and steep in parts. It is recommended for those with a good level of fitness. Alternatively, an easier, shorter walk to explore the boulder strewn canyon floor is available.  You will arrive at Kings Canyon Resort for lunch (own expense), then return to Ayers Rock Resort.

Day 4:   Transfer to the airport for your flight home.
